WHAT
OTHERS SAY ABOUT US
Philippine
Daily Inquirer:
"Coffee for Peace evolved from a fund-raising effort of the
Peacebuilders Community, a non-government organization working for peace
and reconciliation in conflict areas in Mindanao… The
menu is riddled by the word “peace” attached to the food and drinks:
peace tuna melt, peace butter toast, peace cheese melt, peace peanut
butter toast, peace fruit juice, peace fruit shake, hot coffee for
peace, iced coffee for peace, and misty peace tea… The shop also
offers Philippine Civet Arabica, one of the most sought-after coffee. And
true enough, the brew could be one of Davao’s best."
Davao
Food Trip: "We ordered Cifra ala Mode at P140 under their Iced
Coffee For Peace which is their barrista’s winning cold espresso
concoction in a competition held last 2007 which has a tangy taste
because of the bits of lemon you would find in it. I ordered their Cafe
Caramel Mocha Hot Latte P120 under their Hot Coffee For Peace and it
tasted good. I also tried their Monster Chocolate Cake which is only P35
per slice and has a delicious filling in between."
Mindanao
Times: "In just less than five years of migrating to Mindanao,
Joji and Dann, with their community of peace-builders, have trained 17
indigenous tribes in fair trade coffee farming and more than 450
families have benefitted from the fair trade price they are paying for
the coffee they produced."
Canadian
Mennonite Magazine: "CFP encourages economic-ecological
transformation through organically cultivated, locally grown and roasted
coffee beans that are sold for fair-trade prices, providing a
sustainable income for local farmers. Operation of a small street-front
café in Davao selling coffee brewed from those beans generates further
employment. These forms of economic stability help to provide a
foundation for harmony to take root in each of the other three facets of
peacebuilding. A
percentage of all CFP profits helps to support the peace and
reconciliation work of Peacebuilders Community Inc."
Ekklesia: "Joji
and Dann Pantoja helped establish Coffee For Peace, a corporation whose
directors include local business executives, community leaders, creative
communication professionals and academics. These
directors are all committed to advance the three-pronged promise of
Coffee For Peace: to help alleviate the poverty of the lives of the
farmers and their families, to protect and enhance the environment, and
to support local peace builders."
Level
Ground Trading: "Coffee for Peace is promoting justice for
farmers through increasing sustainability including improved techniques
for harvesting and processing green coffee; diverse inter-planting,
offering coffee seedlings to other communities for replanting and
bridging the gap between farmers and consumers through education and
info sharing. For some communities visited by Coffee for Peace the
message of justice and fair payment sounds "too good to be
true" because of their experiences with local traders and marketers
who typically offer farmers 12¢ - 47¢ for a kilo of green coffee.
However, the vision of justice is now being realized."
